Amman, January 25, 2025

Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, sponsored the launch of three mobile early intervention units for people with disabilities today, supported by the Association of Banks in Jordan. The initiative reflects a joint commitment to corporate social responsibility and the partnership between the two entities in implementing various social initiatives. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry and the Association, along with representatives from civil society organizations.

Bani Mustafa highlighted that the ceremony coincides with the Kingdom’s celebrations of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s birthday, underscoring his dedication to the social protection sector. His Majesty’s directives, outlined in the royal commission for Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan’s government, were embraced through commitments in the government’s policy statement on social protection. The Ministry is currently updating the National Social Protection Strategy, which will be launched in the second quarter of this year.

She emphasized Jordan’s exceptional progress in providing an integrated system of services for people with disabilities, noting that the Kingdom will host the Global Disability Summit this year in collaboration with Germany, recognizing its significant role in this area.

The Minister also pointed out that the Ministry leads national efforts to develop alternatives to institutional care by integrating individuals with disabilities into their families and communities, yielding positive psychological and social outcomes. This approach complements the institutional care that Jordan has long excelled in providing.

Bani Mustafa commended the effective partnership with the Association of Banks in Jordan, describing it as a key national and economic institution. This partnership has resulted in several social initiatives over the past two years, driven by the Association’s social responsibility towards the groups served by the Ministry. Among these is the initiative to launch mobile early intervention units, equipped with state-of-the-art devices to serve children aged from birth to six years. Services include speech, occupational, and physical therapy, family counseling, and community rehabilitation. These units will be accessible across the Kingdom, with schedules to be announced.

She noted that the Ministry is continuously expanding early intervention services, with the total number of units now reaching 31 after this initiative, and plans to establish nine additional centers this year.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Banks in Jordan, Mr. Basem Khalil Al-Salem, stated that the Ministry’s remarkable achievements and initiatives motivated the banking sector to form a sustainable and impactful partnership with the Ministry.

He added, “Today, from the headquarters of the Association of Banks, we join the Ministry of Social Development and our beloved nation in celebrating His Majesty the King’s birthday and the launch of three mobile early intervention units equipped with the latest tools and technologies to serve the Kingdom’s three regions. This initiative is not just a project; it is a commitment to the community and a reinforcement of Jordan’s vision to support the most vulnerable groups and ensure service accessibility for all. The launch of these units demonstrates the banking sector’s role as an active partner in achieving developmental goals.”

Al-Salem praised the Ministry’s role in implementing social and developmental initiatives that benefit all segments of the local community, expressing gratitude to the banks in Jordan for their generous support of the Ministry’s initiatives.
