Final Statement of the Fourth Edition of the 2026 Green Finance Forum
“Public-Private Green Dialogue: A Strategic Tool for Reshaping Sustainability”
The Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ) issued the final statement of the fourth edition of the 2026 Green Finance Forum, held under the theme “Public-Private Green Dialogue: A Strategic Tool for Reshaping Sustainability.”
Dr. Maher Al-Mahrouq, Director General of the Association, explained that this year’s Forum served as a key platform for dialogue and joint action in the field of green finance. Its sessions focused on ways to enhance financing flows to green projects, the importance of developing projects that are eligible for financing, mechanisms to support the implementation of the National Green Taxonomy, strengthening climate-risk management practices, and mobilizing the resources required to accelerate Jordan’s transition toward a more sustainable economy.
Dr. Al-Mahrouq also expressed his appreciation to the Forum’s patron, H.E. Dr. Adel Sharkas, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, emphasizing the depth of the institutional partnership and constructive dialogue between the Central Bank of Jordan and the banking sector.
He noted that this partnership has demonstrated how dialogue built on trust and a shared vision can transform challenges into policies, initiatives, and tangible achievements. The model of cooperation between the Central Bank and the banking sector, he added, represents an inspiring success story that can be replicated to strengthen dialogue and partnership across the Kingdom’s various economic sectors.
Dr. Al-Mahrouq further thanked the Forum’s guest and keynote speaker, H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, United Nations Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, for his valuable participation and the rich international perspective he provided on building economic resilience and financing the sustainable transition. He also extended the Association’s appreciation to all officials, speakers, and session moderators whose expertise and insights enriched the Forum and contributed to practical discussions on the opportunities and challenges associated with Jordan’s green-transition journey.
He highlighted the role and vision of the Board of Directors of the Association of Banks in Jordan in reinforcing the Association’s position as a driver of initiatives that strengthen the banking sector’s contribution to sustainable economic transformation.
Dr. Al-Mahrouq also expressed special thanks to the Forum’s sponsors. The platinum sponsors were Jordan Kuwait Bank and Housing Bank. The gold sponsors were Jordan Islamic Bank, Signature, Capital Leasing, Islamic International Arab Bank, Jordan Ahli Bank, Bank al Etihad, and Safwa Islamic Bank, whose support contributed significantly to the success of the event.
He also thanked the Forum’s partners, including GIZ, which implements programs on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), with co-financing from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (DGIS), for their continued support and efforts to advance green finance and sustainability in Jordan. Appreciation was also extended to CNBC Arabia, the Forum’s media partner, for its cooperation and support in communicating the forum’s message and expanding its reach.
Dr. Al-Mahrouq stated that the dialogues and discussions held during the Forum, together with the presentation of relevant experiences and practices, led to the identification of a number of priorities that represent the Forum’s key outcomes and recommendations:
- Integrating the green transition with Jordan’s economic and development priorities by linking environmental and climate objectives with growth, investment, and competitiveness in support of the Economic Modernisation Vision.
- Developing a roadmap to institutionalize the green dialogue as a sustainable process that brings together government, the private sector, the banking sector, and development partners, and translates dialogue into practical solutions, initiatives, and partnerships.
- Supporting the banking sector’s efforts to transform green opportunities into bankable and investable projects by building a clear pipeline of projects that can expand green finance and attract investment.
- Supporting the effective implementation of the National Green Taxonomy and building the capacities and tools needed to use it as a reference framework for directing finance and investment toward green activities.
Dr. Al-Mahrouq noted that this year’s Forum conveyed a clear message: “The idea begins with dialogue; through partnership, it becomes a project; and through financing, it becomes a tangible impact.” He stressed that green dialogue is no longer merely a platform for discussion, but an ongoing institutional process for aligning priorities, connecting visions with practical solutions, and transforming opportunities into projects, investments, and partnerships capable of generating sustainable economic and development value for Jordan.
In concluding the Forum’s final statement, Dr. Al-Mahrouq affirmed that Jordan’s strengths – foremost among them a clear national vision, well-established institutions, a strong banking sector, a dynamic private sector, and broad international partnerships – provide a solid foundation for building on the progress already achieved and for continuing to advance the vision and directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein toward a more sustainable and prosperous future for Jordan.
