The Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ), in cooperation with Green Circle and PGI, organized a specialized workshop titled “AI of Cybersecurity – Banking,” addressing emerging applications of artificial intelligence and future cyber risks in the banking sector. The workshop brought together a group of Chief Risk Officers (CROs), Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), and senior leaders in compliance, risk, legal affairs, and digital banking from banks operating in Jordan.

Dr. Maher Al-Mahrouq, Director General of the Association of Banks in Jordan, opened the workshop by welcoming participants and emphasizing the importance of investing in cybersecurity as a fundamental pillar for maintaining banking-sector stability and safeguarding digital trust in financial services.

During the workshop, Eng. Mohammad Al-Khodari, Chief Executive Officer of Green Circle, reviewed a number of key topics related to the rapid development of artificial intelligence and its applications in the banking environment, with a focus on assessing the cyber risks associated with these technologies and on mechanisms for strengthening digital readiness. The workshop also examined the current state of cybersecurity in Jordan’s banking sector and highlighted the latest requirements for protecting banking data and privacy amid the comprehensive digital transformation taking place globally.

Al-Khodari also presented a proposal to establish a unified advisory platform in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The proposed platform would create an interactive, institutional space for providing specialized advisory services to the banking sector and for exchanging practical expertise and experience among banks operating in Jordan. It would support the sharing of best practices and lessons learned in artificial intelligence applications, cybersecurity, and information technology, while helping strengthen cumulative knowledge and integrate national cybersecurity capabilities. The platform would also assist financial institutions in assessing threats, implementing governance frameworks, and protecting data through a unified sector-wide approach.

For her part, Eng. Wafaa Nimri, General Manager of PGI, stressed the importance of the partnership with the Association of Banks in Jordan and the Jordanian banking sector. She noted that today’s cyber challenges require modern approaches that leverage artificial intelligence to build digital-defense capabilities and enable rapid responses to threats. She added that PGI seeks through this initiative to transfer advanced international expertise and experience in digital governance, data protection, and preparation for quantum-computing risks, thereby strengthening the resilience of Jordanian financial institutions against future breaches and threats.

The workshop organizers emphasized the importance of raising awareness of governance mechanisms and approaches for addressing emerging digital threats. They noted that the workshop represents the first stage of an extended training track aimed at building the capabilities of banking-sector professionals and developing cybersecurity strategies in line with international best practices and applicable local legislation.

The workshop forms part of the Association of Banks in Jordan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the institutional and competitive capabilities of the banking sector and enhance banks’ readiness to keep pace with rapid developments in the digital business environment. It also aims to address the fast-moving changes affecting the financial sector as the use of artificial intelligence expands, together with the new risks associated with advanced fraud and increasingly complex cyber threats.
