The Association of Banks in Jordan, with broad participation from local and international partners, is organizing the third edition of the Green Finance Forum “GREEFIN 2025” under the theme: “Green Finance: From Vision to Design.” The forum is scheduled to take place on September 9, 2025, at the Fairmont Hotel – Amman, over the course of a full day.
Dr. Maher Mahrouq, Director General of the Association of Banks in Jordan, affirmed that this forum is being held within a global context increasingly focused on a low-carbon economy, where banks are expected to play a growing role in offering innovative financial solutions that support inclusive and climate-resilient growth. He noted that the first edition of the forum laid the conceptual and regulatory foundation for green finance, followed by the second edition which deepened strategic dialogue with policymakers. The third edition aims to move the conversation from dialogue to practical implementation.
Dr. Mahrouq added that this year’s forum seeks to enhance the role of banks in supporting the transition to a green economy by highlighting green credit as a tool for sustainable investment, presenting leading international experiences, and reviewing progress in Jordan’s National Green Finance Strategy. It will also explore sectoral opportunities in energy, agriculture, and housing; address the challenges of developing green products; and strengthen collaboration between banks, regulators, and development partners toward building a roadmap for advanced green financial product development.
The 2025 Green Finance Forum will feature five main pillars. The first will address green finance in the global context—its position within the international agenda, the role of major global institutions, and successful international case studies, in addition to assessing Jordan’s standing in this context. The second will focus on designing green financial products through technology and risk analysis to ensure inclusivity for underserved segments. The third pillar will explore green growth opportunities in Jordan, identify promising sectors, assess market readiness, and highlight successful local models. The fourth will cover governance and transparency, stressing the importance of compliance with standards to prevent greenwashing and strengthen credibility. The forum will conclude with a focus on partnerships and a just transition, emphasizing collaboration between banks, government entities, and international organizations to expand green finance and deliver the desired environmental and social impact.
The forum will host a distinguished group of speakers and experts in green finance and sustainability from banking institutions, regulatory bodies, international partners, and specialists in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. They will present practical insights and innovative experiences aimed at boosting the banking sector’s readiness for the green transition.
The forum targets senior banking executives, sustainability and credit risk officers, product development managers, representatives from the Central Bank and Amman Stock Exchange, relevant government agencies, fintech pioneers, development partners, and representatives from the private sector and international organizations working in green finance.
It is worth noting that the Green Finance Forum, launched by the Association of Banks in Jordan in 2023 as an annual initiative, has become a leading national platform for fostering strategic dialogue between the banking sector, decision-makers, and international partners, with the goal of accelerating the transition to sustainable finance and enhancing the role of banks in supporting a green economy.
