
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Association of Banks in Jordan hosted a delegation of students from the Faculty of Economics at the Hashemite University. The visit was part of the ongoing cooperation between the Hashemite University and the Association, aiming to strengthen the connection between students and the banking sector. The visit sought to provide students with an overview of the Jordanian banking sector and its fundamental role in the national economy.
Dr. Maher Al-Mahrouq, Director General of the Association of Banks in Jordan, welcomed the visiting students. In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Mahrouq emphasized the importance of fostering communication between students and the banking sector. He highlighted the pioneering role of the banking sector in various areas, including its financing activities and contributions to corporate social responsibility.
Dr. Al-Mahrouq also explained to the students that the banking sector is committed to capacity building and attracting talent, noting that the employment rate of women in the sector exceeds 35%. He pointed out that the near future holds many technological changes in the banking industry, which will require a set of new skills that students must develop to successfully enter the job market equipped with relevant knowledge and competencies.
The visit included a briefing for the delegation on the banking sector’s financing role and the associated benefits, such as supporting the financing of economic sectors to promote comprehensive development and providing personal financing. Students also discussed new financial instruments and their importance to the national economy, including digital payment systems, the shift toward digital and open banking, as well as green and sustainable finance linked to the transition toward a green and circular economy.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the role of the Association of Banks and the services it provides to the banking sector, including training and capacity-building initiatives. They also toured the Association’s facilities, visiting various halls used for workshops, lectures, and training programs for employees of the Association’s member banks.
At the conclusion of the visit, the students expressed their gratitude to the Association for the warm reception and the valuable information provided about the role of the Association and the Jordanian banking sector. They emphasized the importance of such activities in helping students set their career priorities and broadening their future prospects.
